Freelancer Warning
Paid Ads
Transparency

Freelancers are everywhere these days. You can find one to run your ads for RM300, design a banner for RM50, or “optimize” your campaign in 24 hours.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Most freelancers won’t tell you everything.
Some don’t know better. Some don’t care. Some just assume you’ll never check.

And when you, the business owner, don’t know how ads really work—you’re the one who suffers.

In this blog, I’m sharing 5 things your freelancer probably won’t tell you… but you absolutely need to know.

1. “I Just Boosted Your Post—It Wasn’t a Real Campaign”

Boosting a post is not the same as running a targeted Facebook ad campaign.

Boosting = putting money behind a regular post
Real Ads = setting objectives, creating audiences, split testing, and tracking results

Why this matters:

  • Boosted posts = low quality leads (if any)
  • No retargeting, no funnel, no real data
  • You’re paying for reach, not results

2. “I Reused the Same Targeting from Another Client”

Many freelancers run the same audience or ad copy for all their clients.

Why?

✅ It saves time
❌ But it ignores your unique product, audience, and tone

The risk:

You’re paying for ads built for someone else’s market. No wonder your results feel off.

3. “I’m Not Actually Tracking Conversions—Just Clicks”

If your freelancer isn’t using the Meta Pixel or Google Tag, they can’t see:

  • Who filled up your form
  • Who clicked but didn’t buy
  • How much you actually made back

They’ll show you:

“Look boss, 1,000 clicks!”

But clicks ≠ customers.

4. “I Don’t Know How to Scale—So I Let It Run”

Most freelancers know how to launch an ad—but not how to:

✅ Test variations
✅ Kill underperforming ads
✅ Scale the winners
✅ Optimize cost per result over time

So they just let the ad run… even if it’s not converting.

💡 Ask: “What’s our plan after day 3? Will you test different creatives or audiences?”

If there’s no answer—you’re paying for maintenance, not strategy.

5. “I Don’t Want to Show You the Account—You Might Fire Me”

Many freelancers run ads under their own account, not yours.

That means:

  • You don’t own the data
  • You can’t verify the results
  • You can’t continue the campaign if they disappear

💡 Always ask: “Can we run ads under my Business Manager? I want full access.”

If they say no—walk away.

Why This Matters for Malaysian Business Owners

Digital marketing in Malaysia is growing fast. But so is the number of:

❌ Ghost freelancers
❌ Low-effort service providers
❌ Business owners being overcharged for under-delivered work

You don’t need to become a full-time marketer—but if you want to:

✅ Protect your budget
✅ Make smarter decisions
✅ Grow your brand without depending on others…

Then it’s time to learn the basics yourself.

This Is Exactly What I Teach in My Course

I created a course specifically for business owners who:

  • Have been burned before
  • Want to stop feeling confused
  • Need a simple system that works (even on a small budget)

You’ll learn:

  • How to launch and track your own Facebook, Instagram, and Google Ads
  • How to hire better freelancers (and know if they’re doing a good job)
  • What reports and results actually mean

No fluff. Just clear, practical skills for real businesses in Malaysia.

Conclusion

If you’ve ever felt like your freelancer is hiding something… it’s because you don’t have visibility.

Once you learn what to look for, nobody can fool you again.

Enroll in my course now and gain the skills to run or manage your own marketing with full confidence.
